The Éislek tells its story through trail running

On February 27, 2027, the GTLC will set up its markers for the first time in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Starting from Vianden, five routes will allow participants to discover the Éislek through its forests, steep valleys, demanding trails, and iconic castles.

Five distances · From 21 to 107 km · Up to 4,537 m D+

A NEW TERRITORY FOR THE GTLC

After showcasing the lakes, castles, and terrain of the Belgian Ardennes, the GTLC continues its journey in Luxembourg.

This new edition retains the identity that has guided the project since its creation: offering demanding routes, placing the region at the heart of the event, and creating a real link between trail running, heritage, and local stakeholders.

THE ÉISLEK, TERRAIN MADE FOR TRAIL RUNNING

In northern Luxembourg, the Éislek offers terrain particularly well-suited for trail running. The routes alternate between forest paths, deep valleys, sustained climbs, technical sections, and viewpoints over the region's landscapes.

Held in the heart of winter, the event may feature muddy, slippery terrain and changing conditions. Here, the difficulty is not just about distance: it also comes from the relief, the terrain, and managing one's effort.

CASTLES AS A GUIDING THREAD

GTLC Luxembourg starts in Vianden, overlooked by one of the country's most iconic castles.

Depending on the chosen distance, the routes will lead participants to other major sites in the Éislek: the castles of Bourscheid, Brandenbourg, and Esch-sur-Sûre.

These locations are not mere backdrops. They structure the routes and tell the story of the land crossed.

FIVE ROUTES, FIVE WAYS TO DISCOVER THE ÉISLEK

21.47 km · 1,000 m D+

A short, intense, and demanding course to discover the hills around Vianden.

37.3 km · 1,481 m D+

A well-balanced intermediate distance, designed for trail runners ready to tackle consecutive climbs and forest sections.

50 km · 2,404 m D+

A challenging route that marks a true entry into long-distance running.

82 km · 3,519 m D+

An ultra-trail crossing the Éislek and taking in the castles of Bourscheid and Brandenbourg.

107 km · 4,537 m D+

The longest and most demanding format. Its route extends to Esch-sur-Sûre before heading back to Vianden.

AN EVENT BUILT WITH THE LOCAL REGION

GTLC Luxembourg is being organized in consultation with local municipalities, castle managers, forestry services, tourism stakeholders, and the various authorities concerned.

This collaboration aims to deliver a well-rounded event that respects the sites visited and sustainably showcases the natural and historical heritage of the Éislek.
